
Daniel Burnfin is a visiting assistant professor of philosophy at the University of the South. Before coming to Sewanee, he was a a Humanities Teaching Fellow and lecturer in Germanic studies and the College at the University of Chicago, where he received his PhD in philosophy and Germanic studies in 2022. He specializes in the history of modern German philosophy, social and political philosophy, and the philosophy of economics and social science. His work engages with classical political economy, political realism, as well as Hegel, Marx, Keynes, and Alfred Sohn-Rethel.
Currently, Daniel is working on a project on the ways in which Marx’s Capital and Theories of Surplus Value arguably anticipated much of the “Keynesian Revolution” and post-Keynesian macroeconomics, as well as a project on the sociological theory of Oliver Cox. He is also co-editing and translating the writings of Sohn-Rethel.
